महोबा । बुन्देलखण्ड में दीपावली पर्व पर मौनिया नृत्य खेलने की प्रथा बेहद प्राचीन है। बुंदेली भाषा में इसे दिवारी कहा जाता है। यह कोई साधारण नृत्य
नही है,बल्कि साधना का प्रतीक भी है। मौनिया नृत्य करने वालों को कड़ी उपासना करनी पड़ती है। इस नृत्य को भगवान कृष्ण की लीलाओं से जोड़ा जाता है। मौनियां 12 मेंड़े अर्थात बारह गांवों को पार करते हैं। दिवारी नृत्य द्वापर युग से चली आ रही परम्परा को निभा रहा है और उस समय भगवान श्री कृष्ण ग्वालों के साथ गाय चराने जाते थे। ग्वाला के सखा बने भगवान श्री कृष्ण का गोपियों से अटूट सम्बन्ध रहता था। उसी स्मृति में बुंदेलखंड के गांवों के बाहर एक चबूतरा बना हुआ है, जिन्हें ग्वाल बाबा के नाम से जाना जाता है। दीपावली पर ग्वाल बाबा के स्थान से मौनिया नृत्य प्रारम्भ किया जाता है। ग्रामीण इलाकों में मौनिया नृत्य करने वाले लोग सर्व प्रथम ग्वाल बाबा के स्थान पर जाते हैं और अपने सिर पर मयूर पंख रखकर एवं कमर में गायों को पहनाने वाले आभूषण पहनकर बाबा के चरणों में माथा टेकते हैं। तदुपरान्त मौन धारण करते हैं। मौन सच्ची साधना का प्रतीक माना जाता है। मौन के बाद अपने आराध्य देव की पुजा अर्चना करके मौनिया नृत्य किया जाता है। यह प्रचलन‍ समूचे बुंदेलखंड में आज भी कायम है।इस प्रसिद्ध नृत्य के बारे में बताया जाता है कि मौनियों को बारह मेड़े अर्थात बारह गांवों को पार करना पड़ता है। मौनिया नृत्य करने वालो के साथ कुछ लोगो की टोलियां रहती है,जो हाथों में लाठी डण्डा साथ लिये रहते हैं, जो नृत्य का प्रदर्शन करते है। यह नृत्य देखने वालो की आयोजित होने वाले एक दिवसीय मेलो मे खासी भीड़ रहती है। साथ टोली के सदस्य दीवारी गीत इत्यादि दोहा गाकर यह टोलियां श्रोताओं को भाव विभोर करती हैं लेखनीय है कि द्वापर युग में मौनिया नृत्य में भगवान श्री कृष्ण के साथ गोपियो ने अपनी भागीदारी निभाई थी, इसलिये मौनिया नाच में कुछ युवाओं द्वारा उन रस्मों को किया जाता है। आस पास के ग्रामीण अंचलो में दीवारी नृत्य ने लोगों का मन मोह लिया। जिले के विविध गांवो में मेले लगते है।
